I understand that the product description says these are 'more ornamental compared with practicality,' but I was still hoping for a bit more functionality. They certainly look the part—the design is classic and elegant. I bought them to take to a play, hoping to get a better view from the balcony seats. While they do magnify the image slightly, the optical quality is quite poor. The image is only clear in the very center of the view, with significant blurring and distortion around the edges. The focusing knob feels loose and doesn't seem to do much to improve the sharpness. It feels less like looking through a quality lens and more like looking through a pair of toy binoculars. They are very lightweight and compact, which is nice, but I found them more frustrating to use than just watching the stage with my own eyes. I ended up just holding them as a prop because they do look quite nice. If you are buying these purely for the vintage aesthetic or for a costume, they would be perfect. However, if you are hoping for a tool that will genuinely improve your view at a performance, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
