I got my plant and noticed the leaves where slightly fuzzy and white I thought maybe the leaves were just like that I don’t know. Then the soil started to do the same looked it up it has powdery mildew. So I don’t know what to do. I have it away from the other plants, due to it needing different lighting so nothing has spread as of yet. But I don’t know if I’m going to have an apple tree much longer. I’m so sad. I bought this apple tree in memory of my late uncle (he had an apple tree) i hope i can fix it.
Thanks for your feedback, we are very sorry you are now having issues with PM.
Some helpful tips to stop the spread and prevent this from coming back.
Controling an outbreak
1. Pruning - Remove infected shoots, especially during dormancy or early spring, as they act as sources of infection.
2. Thin out dense growth - dany clusters of small leaves or places where the branches cant get good air flow between them should be removed.
3. Ensuring good airflow - as previously mentioned in the first 2 suggestions, removing any dense growth will help quite a bit, if you have the plant indoors having a fan blowing on it gently after watering to help with quick drying of the leaves would help control and prevent PM.
4. Replacing the soil - the PM will not affect the soils fertility but it will provide a comfortable place for the PM to live and possibly spread so we would recommend replacing the soil that is on the plant now. You may be able to just remove and replace the top layer since the soil is new already.
Prevention
1. Neem Oil - This is an organic alternative to using pesticide to remove PM. You can purchase neem oil premixed or the concentrate solution which needs to be mixed in a ratio of 3 tbs to 1 gallon of water.
2. Air Circulation: Promote good airflow by spacing plants adequately and pruning to remove dense foliage. Fans can also help increase air movement.
3. Sunlight: Ensure plants receive adequate sunlight, as shaded areas can retain moisture and favor PM growth. Avoid watering late in the day or the evenings.
4. Humidity Control: Reduce humidity by avoiding overhead watering and ensuring good ventilation. Watering in the morning allows plants to dry out before nightfall.
We hope these tips are helpful in bringing the plant back strong and healthy in the future. Please keep us updated, you can also email us directly at contact@celectigo.com.
